I have made a number of visits to Leighton Hospital with. My elderly Mother. I have not had any concerns regarding the clinical side of the care provided, I have for found it to be excellent. However the inconsistency with the attitude of staff towards patients is extreme from pure hostile, as if we are the enemy to very capable. The problem seems to be the standard of ward management. Some have an understanding of how to handle dementia patients but most don't and that includes the Doctors and consultants. They don't understand that approach is everything. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it must be a duck. However when you have a 7 year old in the body of an 85 year old they are treated in a very different way. It's the baby and puppy who people melt over. But an old dog or An old persons isn't of value. My Mother becomes agitated when not addressed personally, not that she could understand, however she has the choice of referring to me, which she usually does. When she gets agitated she is blamed, which is wrong, and then treated like an alcoholic or drug addict who has lost control. Leighton has made many improvements, but keep t at it. I don't think the appalling pay increase is going to provide nurses with much self asteam. Shame.
"Very poor support for elderly vulnerable."
