"Even though I was in over the Christmas period, the care and attention was first class"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Accident and emergency Medway Maritime Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I went to A&E In the evening, although the waiting time was 2 hrs, I was seen by the triage nurse and in majors within ¾ hr. I was admitted to Victory ward in late Dec 2013. 3 days later I was operated on for a bowel blockage. I was taken immediately from the operating theatre to the I.C.U. Then after to the High Dependency Unit, I returned to Victory ward until my discharge in early Jan 2014.

Even though I was in over the Christmas period, the care and attention was first class. All the staff were very understanding and kind. The Doctors were approachable and made time to discuss my illness and care plan.

I have heard really bad reports about the catering but I found the food adequate, in a hospital you cannot expect an a la carte menu.

After my discharge I was offered an appointment with Critical care consultant nurse Catherine Plowright. She was so very kind and explained the answers to my questions about being in hospital and put me at ease about my stay in I.C.U. I would recommend anyone to take the opportunity of this service

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding.

I was pleased to read that all the staff made a positive contribution to your care and well being whilst staying with us over the christmas period.

Your experiences of how well we have cared for you are evident in your positive reflection of your stay

The behaviours of staff, the first class care and attention and the approachable kind manner in which you felt you were managed have been heartening to read.

This is what you should expect everytime- thank you

Our mealtime experience is currently under consideration in view of patient feedback and we are always seeking to improve on what we provide..

Following your discharge you were offered an appointment with our critical care consultant nurse which you accepted. She was able to answer all your questions and put you at ease about your stay in ICU. This again is an important factor in understanding your treatment and care plan for the future to ensure your health and well being.

I will ensure your comments are shared with the staff teams involved.

Thank you once again for taking the time to offer us your feedback.

Regards

Suzanne Brooker
