My father who is very elderly and extremely disabled, he also has throat cancer of which he has been undergoing treatment, we live in Rotherham and all the family work or dont drive, my father was taken ill on a Friday and taken to Rotherham hospital (of where he has been treated for his cancer) The next thing we got to know was that he had been transferred to Doncaster as apparently there was no ENT doctor at Rotherham over the weekend, as you can imagine this is really inconvenient for our family especially my Mother as she is elderly and has no way of getting there alone. The MRI and biopsy was to be done over the weekend, only to find out that, the MRI was not carried out until the day that I booked off work to take my mum, Wed and also at visiting time just as we had got there, also due to my fathers problems we know that a biopsy cannot be done straight away as he is on Wharfrin and they need to take him off this for at least 3 days before they can operate, needless to say when we went on the Wed we found out that they had just taken him off Wharfrin and he is to have the biopsy next Mon/Tues coming! My father is actually ok in himself and not bed bound due to his cancer (only his disability) we then heard that they may let him home for the weekend and come back next Monday. My Mum has rang again today (Friday) to find out that they will not provide transport to fetch him home for the weekend now and that we would have to do this private....my daughter-in-law who is a nurse is absolutely disgusted by this as she states that it should be part of the 'care package' I am at a loss with the service of Doncaster, to say 'beds' are very important, my father is taking up a bed not needed and could have been treated as an outpatient for the tests he has to have (same as before) also to not have the 'care' to allow him home for the weekend where his family can see him is ridiculious, this is causing so much stress to my mum and the family it is unreal......
