"A mixed bag - just glad I am not old - yet!"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

Picked up by Ambulance - staff lovely, acted quickly, communicated clearly - felt cared for A & E - Had to keep buzzing and pleading for painkillers. Took 20 minutes, I was in agony. Nurse was trying to yank my dressing gown off and put a hospital gown on me before she would top up my morphine, surely it could of waited 2 minutes until I was more comfortable? Had me in tears but just walked off after. Doctor asked me the same questions over and over - didn't feel very confident that he knew what he was doing Investigation ward - Again having to wait for ages for painkillers. Bowls of sick waiting around for ages. Lack of communication - I could eat/I was fasting, I could have morphine/I couldn't have morphine. Nurses seemed friendly enough but just didn't have time to care it seemed. It seemed anything you asked them that took any time, like getting a painkiller prescribed, they tried to put you off until it was drug time. There was an older woman who was screaming and screaming in pain, begging for stronger painkillers and buzzing, they kept putting her off telling her to breathe through it as she was making it worse and then just turned her buzzer off and walked off again. Ward 33 - A mixed bag, some had time and some just didn't seem to care and buzzers being ignored, felt I worked harder than some of them in regard to caring for 2 older patients who just did not seem safe and cared for on the ward. Was told I needed a drip to rehydrate me through the night, it appeared the next morning, sat on the side table all day and then disappeared without ever being attached to me! Had no jug of water that night either.... Feel sorry for the older patients, all the nurses and specialists appeared when visitors arrived sounding all caring and interested but had been no-where near the patients before hand....shocking
