"The consultant was friendly."

About: Bishop Auckland Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The consultant was friendly.

What could be improved

TThe reception staff are apt to be very rude, and even offensive. They have a habit of holding conversations between themselves when dealing with patients. As a patient I have a right to the same courtesy and respect that the staff expect from patients. They seem to use up a lot time gossiping, reading and keeping patients waiting. As far as MRSA is concerned I have never seen a receptionist use the disinfectant sprays, or is this perhaps due them not being able to transfer the bugs. Even after handling much paper work, and contact with patients, and consuming confectionary at the desk..

There seem to be a lot of nursing auxilliaries hanging about, doing nothing apart from chatting. The registered nurse on the Outpatients, was wearing a lot of makeup and was very patronising and rude with the patients sshe was dealing with in the waiting area. She even left one elderly man to walk to the consutants office, unaided, whn he obviously needed help.

Consultants should learn to listen to what patients are saying, especially the ones that have been working at the hospital for a long time.

Anything else?

It may be that I should complain formerly, but I was told the Reception Manager doesnt discuss this sort of thing with patients.

As far as nursing staff were concerned I was told to make a formal complaint, all I wanted to do was raised my concerns with the Nurse in charge, but I was told she was too busy.
