"Ward 27 Exeptional Care"

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

The rating on cleanliness is not in referencet to ward 27. Both the medical and nursing care on ward 27 has been exceptional. I have observed how Rheumatology, Medicine, Pain team and Dermatolgy have worked together as a team to deliver high quality care. The nursing team both days and night staff are all careing and conduct their work with curtesy and a smile nothing being to much trouble. The food however I have to say is appalling.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that your experience of our catering service was not as positive as we would hope. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as an opportunity for the service to make changes and improvements wherever possible.

In response to your comment, I can tell you that your concerns have been shared with Sodexo (our private sector partner) and they have responded to say that they would appreciate any detail about the food which could then be taken on board and followed through.

Sodexo and the Trust are working jointly on a Patient Experience Project to review how we deliver meals to patients; we work closely together and are passionate about the food we produce as we believe it is important to deliver high standards of food and service to our patients. On this occasion, we have clearly fallen below the high targets we have set ourselves and it would be good to understand if you raised your concerns whilst you were on Ward 27 as we encourage wards to raise problems as they are identified so that we can rectify issues in a timely manner.

For your information the patient meals come from Sodexo’s prepared food business, Tillery Valley Foods, a market leader in the Healthcare sector. Tillery Valley works to national nutritional guidelines; employs registered dieticians; and, uses fresh UK produce avoiding convenience ingredients wherever possible.

Thank you for your feedback with regard to the Rheumatology and Dermatology. It was very kind of you to write and compliment the staff as it is good to receive positive feedback which reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff. It was reassuring to hear that you thought highly of the team work and the quality care that you received. I can assure you that we have passed on your thoughts to ward and the staff involved.
