"Good nursing care but long wait for discharge at Rotherham"

About: Rotherham Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was in the Rotherham District General hospital for 2 weeks following a knee operation. It was supposed to be 3-5 days but since the operation didn't go completely to plan, I needed to have a second op. The nurses were great and I was kept informed as much as possible.

The only problem was that you didn't always get the food which you had ordered. Also, the nights were quite noisy due to staff treating other patients.

On leaving, it took a full day to be discharged. I don't know why this was the case, but it was an unacceptably long time to have to wait.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on this website and how wonderful to read that the nursing care on the ward met your expectations.

I am sorry if you did not always receive the meals you had ordered and have passed your comments to the Catering department.

Your comments regarding the noise level on the ward during the night have been passed to Matron and, whilst it appears that your comments relate to noise made by staff during the delivery of patient care, any disturbance caused is very much regretted. Please be assured that Matron will discuss this with her staff.

I am sorry that you encountered a delay on your day of discharge. Every effort is made to facilitate an early discharge once the decision has been made that a patient is well enough to be discharged. Unfortunately this is dependent on a number of factors, including the demands on medical and pharmacy staff. The Trust is aware of the frustration and inconvenience caused to patients waiting to be discharged and are always looking at ways this can be improved including a recently refurbished pharmacy department. Once again, please accept our apologies for your delay.

Thank you once again for your post and I do hope that you have made a good recovery.
