After taking a day off work and traveling a 100 mile round trip to take my 81 yr old mother for an appointment at the respiratory clinic only to find no parking spaces. Her appointment was for 3pm and we arrived at the hospital at 2.15 pm and toured the car park and area until 3pm by which time we gave up and returned home. What a waste of our time and more importantly the doctors precious time. On contacting the hospital to appologise for missing the appointment I was asked if I wanted to rebook but the same problem with parking would be just the same. My mother does not wish to go by the taxi service as last time she went onher own she was left sitting in a chair for 4 hours waiting for a spinal iinjection and was very distressed when I collected her at which time she still had not been seen. My mother worked at this hospital as a staff nurse and cannot believe how poor things have become. You can build all the new wings and departments your budget allows but with no patient access this is a waste of time and prevents your patients access to medical care.
