"Pilgrim Hospital A&E"

About: Pilgrim Hospital

Last year I was taken to pilgrim A&E by ambulance and it took over an hour ++ for any staff to notice me in the corridor, where I had been unceremoniously dumped by the ambulance crew. Once In the cubicle I was tended to (usual exam and doctor ) and then left in the tiny, claustrophobic cubicle for the next 12 hours totally alone, without knowing what might be wrong with me, before being admitted to CDU. No one had acknowledged I was even still.in that room..which was not very clean and quite obnoxious. It happened again later in the year on another visit (both possible cardiac related) and this time I was in the cubicle 7 hours before admission to CDU, same scenario. My husband was taken to pilgrim A&E last Wednesday February 26 by ambulance..left in the corridor by ambulance crew and there he sat, on the trolley, for over one hour before any staff member acknowledged his presence! He had had two, heart attacks in 2000 and has Stents..was taken because of abnormal ECG reading. One would think that possible cardiac Patients might be cared for a bit better? The staff just seem to have no earthy idea , nor care, how frightened we might be. it is totally disgusting and I have complained . Many people receive this awful treatment and many complain but nothing changes. Pilgrim A&E is a terrifying! dehumanising place to be an unfortunate patient. They have lots to learn and many changes are needed ASAP. They also, need to understand that our GPs, 111 service or Out of Hours doctors have advised, or sent us, to attend A&E..we are not there for fun, or on a whim and most of us understand how stretched and busy they are, but some respect and decent Nursing care should surely be our right as a patient? Or, is that too much to ask?
