I was admitted by my GP to the Queen's Medical Centre due to complications following neurological surgery. The ward I was admitted to was a mixed sex one, with elderly confused men who kept taking their clothes off and attempting to get into other people's beds. After being identified as needing further spinal surgery, I was starved on 3 occasions for theatre without the operation actually taking place afterwards. On the fourth occasion, the operation was eventually carried out.
I was on bed rest for 22 days. On the morning of my discharge from the hospital, I was allowed to sit in a chair for short periods of time by the nurses at 9:30. At 11:30 I was told by the medical staff that I could go home. My husband was totally shocked as I was not very stable on my feet and could only walk short distances.
I will never forget the QMC - but for all the wrong reasons.
"Bad experience at QMC"
