"Parking"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

The previous 'coin' system enabled patients to pay according to the time actually parked at the hospital. The new system requires the patient to 'guess' how long they are likely to be and, on pain of a fine for 'overstaying' will more than likely pay for longer than they actually need. This smacks to me of a form of profiteering; there is no refund for time not used; the stick of a fine ensures an overpayment is likely. Patients and their relatives constitute a 'captive' audience and it is disgraceful that profits of this nature are made from people who, by the very nature of their visits to the hospital, need care and consideration.

Dear Mrs T, Thank you so much for your kind endorsement of the high quality care received from our surgical team - I am only sorry this has been marred somewhat by your frustrations with the new parking system. You may wish to know that it is possible to pay for your parking after your appointment when you leave the hospital - in that way you will have more certainty of the amount required and there should be no reason to pay more than you need to. It is also important to let you know that the Trust has listened to, and is concerned by, the many issues raised by patients and families, since the Parking Eye system was installed. As a result, we are entering into urgent discussions with Parking Eye Ltd to find a way of addressing these concerns and preventing any recurrence of the issues which have been reported to us. Please do come back to me if you have any ongoing concerns. My email is annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk Many thanks, Annie
