"Did my mum receive enough care?"

About: Gloucestershire PCT Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

(as a relative),

My mother was an emergency admission to Gloucester Royal Hospital at about 5.00 pm to 5.30pm on a Friday. Her doctor arranged an emergency admission to a surgical ward, because it was only 10 days since surgery.

In those 10 days, a district nurse called 3 times a week, to observe the spot on the end of my mums toe change until all of the toe underneath was gone and part of the ball of her foot. The district nurse advised my mum that the antibiotics wouldn't help.

On admission a surgeon and a doctor both saw mum within the hour, and at the surgeons request, the doctor put in a line for antibiotics. The surgeon asked for her foot to be raised, this didn't happen at all.

After another hour, I asked the nurse in charge about my mum's intravenous antibiotics.

The nurse in charge of the ward refused antibiotics until 10.00pm, because that is when she gave antibiotics. I asked her again at 8.00pm, she asked me to leave. She asked me why I wasn't gone at 9.00pm. I left at 10.40pm just after my mum received her antibiotics.

My mum died within a fortnight, after her leg was amputated at the thigh.
