"Total waste of time"

My son was referred for a Upper GI in December 2013 and eventually got a appointment for early February. He received a letter saying he would have a sedative so needed to bring someone with him to drive home. We both had to take half a days leave for this. He was seen quickly on arrival and was told they had been trying to ring him all day to see if he could get there earlier. He had no missed calls on his mobile and they also said they had tried to ring him at work, the number they had was his old work number but it is the same number as where I work and there had been no call for him. He was then told he wouldn't be given a sedative. He tried twice to have the camera down his throat but without the sedative but it didn't work and was distressing. The staff were unfriendly and gave no more advice and he was sent on his way. He then had to ring three times over the next week to see what was happening next. Eventually he was re referred back to the gp who has thankfully referred him to a hospital. However, he now has to wait another two months to try again. All this could have been avoided if staff had given the sedative as initially stated and not been in such a rush to get off. Instead he is still in a lot of pain and now has another long wait.

unfortunately as we do not have patient detail it is difficult to investigate this. I would be very grateful fo a call or letter to give me more information and this can then be investigted and lessons learnt can be shared with the staff concerned with your son's treatment. We have a very good record of patient care and so this concerns us greatly and we would welcome an opportunity to address your complaint specifically.
