"Perturbed"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital

I went in for a gyny op recently and having stated at least 5 times, and it being written down and noted by at least 5 different staff, that I had a problem with my lower back I came out of the operation barely able to walk. The care I received up to being taken back to the ward was ok'ish, I did feel like a sheep being herded from one room to another. Having been asked to turn up at 7.15am and the op not starting until 9am, I felt as though it was my fault that they were rushing me around getting me sorted as the Surgeon wanted to get my op done first. As soon as I was back on the ward and very obviously in pain with huge difficulty walking, no one seemed to be that bothered. Another patient asked if I needed help. The registrar was unhappy that I was being discharged as she hadn't ok'd it. I wanted to get home. I heard my husband ask for me in the corridor, the nurses weren't even sure who/where I was, probably because he pronounced my name correctly instead of the incorrect pronunciation I received all day from all but one person, I gave up correcting staff as no one was really listening. It seems that staff were so concerned with filling in a ridiculous amount of forms that they failed to see the person in front of them. I really could have done with someone realising I was struggling to walk out of that ward when I had been able to walk in perfectly. I felt I was on a conveyor belt from the moment I walked in to the moment I fell off at the end. Job done. Her back ain't our problem, womb sorted! Off you go. I feel perturbed that no one took the time to ask if I was really ok. I'm a little fed up that paperwork, meeting targets etc has come before real care. If I had seen a patient in such obvious pain I would have endeavoured to have given them some care and advice. I wouldn't have allowed them to leave without ensuring they were really ok. Please take the time see the person, sit for a minute and ask if a patient is really ok, you will probably get an honest answer than asking as you are walking past obviously too busy with some other matter!
