"Orthopaedic Surgeon and the Day Unit"

About: Basildon University Hospital

I arrived at Basildon Hospital Day Unit on 19.02.14 for a knee anthroscopy. I was extremely nervous and apprehensive. Immediately upon entering the unit I was made to feel calm and was reassured by all of the nursing staff that everything was going to be fine They were so helpful, kind and caring it calmed my nerves. The way in which all members of staff dealt with me was so professional. There is an air of calmness and control in the unit that gives you complete confidence. The communication between staff was excellent. You could see the pressure they were working under but at all times they all remained helpful, compassionate and considerate. The anesthetist explained what was going to happen clearly She even made sure I had numbing cream prior to any injections administered. The surgeon knew I was very nervous and at all times treated me with such outstanding professionalism. I was clearly informed and dealt courteously with kindness. He was very understanding of such a nervous patient. I cannot thank him and the team in the Day Unit enough. Absolutely outstanding treatment. Thank you.

We are pleased that your recent experience of care in the Day Unit at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was a good one. The staff do a difficult job with skill and professionalism and comments such as yours will be a great boost to morale. We have forwarded your kind comments to the staff involved in your care. Thank you.
