My experience during my stay at Milton Keynes hospital is mixed. The vast majority of staff were well trained and professional especially the surgical team that performed my operation and the after care I received from orthopaedics as an out patient. The on-going care from the physiotherapy staff is also excellent. However, to be kept waiting for an hour and a half for a bedpan during the night, when I could not get out of bed, was excruciating. This was an assault on my dignity. I am not used to asking for assistance and to ask to use a bed pan at my relatively young age was embarrassing in the first place. To be made to ask repeatedly and to have to wait for such a long time was humiliating and very painful especially since I have fibroids. One trained nurse was very rude and made me wait 40 minutes for painkillers after I requested them because she was on her rounds and I could have them when she got to me. This is unacceptable. I have a high pain threshold and would not have requested medication if I had not required it or there was a danger of me having too much too soon. Whilst most ward staff were professional. I found some of the HCAs unprofessional and disinterested in patients. They were rude to some of the elderly people on my ward and did not treat them with the respect and dignity their age afforded them. I found this quite shocking. On leaving the hospital I completed a patient review form and I have sent an email complaint but I have never received an acknowledgement.
"Bank staff not of the same high standards"
