Recently, at around 4: 00pm my husband was involved in a car accident, an ambulance either from Barnstaple or Ilfracombe came to the scene.
My husband was driving the car by himself when he had some sort of fit or seizure and banged into another car. Even though the airbag was inflated my husband’s car carried on moving for another five minutes knocking into street signs, going across a traffic island and finally stopping when the car clipped a bus.
Quite a few people were around and someone must have called for an ambulance and the police.
The ambulance crew checked my husband over, bandaged one hand that was hurt and treated the other had which has cuts from the broken glass from the windscreen. They checked his eyes and his responses and said he was fine and could go home.
The police brought my husband home as our car was a write off. At home the police needed to get a statement from my husband and when they had finished they asked him to sign it. As he got up my husband was disorientated and knocking into things. Neither the police nor I thought this was right and the police immediately took him to the Barnstaple hospital.
In A&E they checked his eyes and reflexes, these seemed OK but he was very confused. Whilst still in A&E he had another fit – it was a minor one but later he had a major seizure. My husband was admitted to hospital straightaway for further tests, following this he has now been started on epilepsy medication.
I think the ambulance crew should have taken him to hospital and wonder why they didn’t. He is 70 years old and had open heart surgery 6 months ago so with this history I’m amazed that they did not take him to hospital and have his state of health followed up.
"Amazed ambulance crew didn't take my husband to hospital following car accident"
