"Fantastic caring staff"

About: University Hospital Of North Tees

I cannot fault the staff on wards 30 and 31. My complaint is with the cleanliness. Ward 30 was an absolute disgrace. The cleaner had phoned in sick and there was no replacement. I was there for three days and the room wasn't cleaned at all. We had an overflowing bin which took two days to be emptied. The bed table was filthy and the floor was littered. No surprise when I was re-admitted after discharge with an infection. Thank god I was in 31 that time. I was bedridden for two days post surgery on ward 30. At no time was I offered a bowl of water to wash with. I had to rely on wet wipes I had brought in with me. I had a temperature and was hot and sweaty so a wash down would have been a relief. I asked three times for a bowl of water but I am still waiting. Two of the more senior nurses were discussing the state of the ward when giving out meds. One said that the hospital was becoming a cess pit! To which the other responding "Say it as it is". That hardly instills confidence in the patients. Needs a complete shake up and clean up before it can get the confidence of the public again.

We're very sorry that we let you down about standards of cleaning during your stay with us and thank you for drawing your concerns to our attention. We have put things right now and we can assure you that cleaning will be maintained at a very high level. Thank you for taking the time to leave a message on NHS Choices. Your comments do help us improve things for future patients and, once again, we are sorry that our standards were not at the level you should have expected during your stay.
