"A & E Emergency Admission"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital

Suffering from severe abdominal pain I was seen and assessed quickly. I was admitted and transferred to Surgical Assessment Ward and again assessed. I was informed that I was suffering from appendicitis and the course of action that would be taken. Numerous doctors, registrars and surgeons plus students came to assess me. At all times I was kept informed of what was occurring. I was monitored and many samples were taken and assessed including x-rays. I was told that I needed surgery but that a suitable slot needed to be found due to the high volume of admissions. While waiting to have my appendix removed i was informed of why there had been delays. There were people who needed surgery more urgently than myself. After returning from surgery I was kept informed of what had occurred and what would happen next. Although in considerable pain it was reduced by medication. The whole experience was very traumatic, it would have been much worse in my opinion if it had not been for the caring team of personnel who looked after me during my short stay. All the staff should be credited for their professionalism and expertise. I only sampled some of the catering but found it most acceptable and tasty. The only practice that I would question is that of shaking hands with Doctors Consultants Registrars etc. Although a really nice gesture could it not be a means of cross contamination? I cannot find fault with my whole experience from arrival to departure everything was explained to the full. A really big thank you to all concerned.
