"I am a Patient at Addenbrookes ..."

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital / Nephrology

(as the patient),

What I liked

I am a Patient at Addenbrookes Dialysis Unit. I have been on Dialysis 7 years at Addenbrookes. During that time Addenbrookes has performed my medical treatment 3 times a week.

What could be improved

When attending addenbrookes for treatment the dialysis car park is nearly always full with cars that are not attending the dialysis unit.

The lack of doctors available during the evening while patients are on Dialysis is inadequate. This results in poor communication between patients and doctors about my medical condition.

The arrangement of Dialysis Clinics and Dialysis is ridiculus, arranging Dialysis Clinics early in the morning and expecting patients to wait all day until their dialysis appointment in the evening.

Some of the nurses bed side manner could be improved considerably.

Anything else?

Addenbrookes is brilliant if you are a emergency patient, or coming in for a one of medical treatment. However if you are a long term patient suffering from a serious medical condition the quality of care needs to improve.

We are sorry that you have been dissatisfied by some aspects of the service provided to you as a dialysis patient. There are plans to increase the medical cover on the unit in the evenings which should address some of the issues you have raised.

In response to your comments about parking, we have requested additional security checks in the area used by dialysis patients to try to ensure that those patients most in need of those spaces are able to use them and they are not inappropriately used by other hospital visitors.

The medical staff do try to schedule outpatient appointments and dialysis sessions to meet the needs of the patient and I am sorry if this has not been your experience.

If you would find it helpful to discuss your concerns in more detail please do not hesitate to contact PALS at pals@addenbrookes.nhs.uk
