"Maternity unit"

About: East Surrey Hospital

I feel that this hospital deserves to be given good feedback because the care and level of service I received was excellent. From my scans to seeing the consultants on the birthing unit to delivering my baby I cannot fault the service. Everyone of the staff was caring, knowledgable, attentive and genuinely liked their job and nothing was too much trouble. The few days I went into ante natal unit before my baby was born and was looked after and reassured because I felt my baby had not moved but all was ok and I was monitored for a few hours. I felt like I could ask them anything and was never left worrying. The day I went into deliver my baby I was looked after by a few midwives because of the length of time I was in there and everyone of them I was looked after really well. I had a long and difficult labour but not once did I feel that they didn't have things under control. Your notes are constantly updated and all your stats are monitored continuesly including the babies. The only fault I can say is on the post natal ward where it is so noisy from people coming and going all night but they can't help that and the food is awful! So bad in fact I actually can't believe they serve it up. Breakfast was soft rolls and cereal with warm milk, toast would of been nice but to be honest you can live with it as there is a Macdonalds down the road and they serve a lovely breakfast so I didn't starve.

Dear Tamara Perry

Many thanks for posting your great comments about Maternity Services here at East Surrey Hospital.

I'm sorry that you felt that the food was so bad and as the Director responsible I would be really happy to talk about to you about it if you would like to do so. I really believe that we should be able to at least match McDonalds and would really welcome your comments. So if you'd like to talk about this further please e-mail me at ian.mackenzie@sash.nhs.uk and I will respond as soon as I can.

Best wishes

Ian

Dear Tamara Perry

Forgot to say that we have now bought a rotary toaster so future mums will be able to have toast.

Best wishes

Ian
