"Appalling"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

On entering the ward the reception and admin was fine, friendly and efficient. The surgery seemingly went well, not that any information was passed until the next day. The anesthetist visited as having initially been told my wife would be fitted with a self administering morphine pump, she wasnt! The anesthetist was a tad shifty about this but maintained it was the surgeons decision. He would not comment on how the surgery went. ( i had assumed he was present) Oral and morphine by injection followed! The best care and attention was from the healthcare assistants, they were brilliant. The doctor on shift was seemingly was too stretched to give a debrief and my wife was literally told the next day she could go as they needed the bed, but had no idea what HRT had been administered or in fact anything regarding her aftercare! (But on my request i got handed a leaflet from a staff nurse) My wife had to ask for the needle to be removed from the back of her hand which had until then been overlooked. The most astonishing thing was, they had run out of the HRT patches, they had performed the surgery but had apparently run out of the hormone... astonishing! This along with the tired condition of the ward, overstretched staff and complete lack of continuity between visiting nurses (they hadnt a clue what the previous visiting nurse had done) was appalling enough, but to then be left to walk off the ward without the offer of a wheelchair capped it off. An awful experience which has left my wife in tears. I mentioned the condition of the ward, it looked third world, and would not have looked out of place in national geographic! I am furious!
