"going home"

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

going home

What could be improved

Doctors should listen to the patient and read the patients notes and documentation from other members of staff. All the doctors suggested it could have been "womens problems" How rude!!! it ranged from an ovarian cyst, period pains, one even suggested it could have been an ectopic pregnancy. Had they LISTENED to me or READ MY NOTES they would have discoverd I had had a total hysterectomy 12 years ago, leaving me with nothing that could have caused the "womens problems" other that a man!!! One doctor even suggested it could have been wind!!!! They didnt like it when I questioned them and asked them if they had read my notes.

Anything else?

I saw 8 different doctors who came up with many different diagnosis's for my problem. I feel they never listened to me and I felt I wasnt taken serious.During one admission to A&E from my own doctors I was told to go home and relax and to come back if the pain didnt go away. That way I wasnt bed blocking!!! I As I have got a complex medical history they made me feel like I was a neurotic woman who was enjoying the attention. (Far from the truth, I had constant abdominal pain for 8 months) I was passed from one department to another for weeks. I never saw a registrar or consultant, only the poor junior doctors who had no idea what was wrong with me. Eventually I saw a doctor who offered me a Laparoscopy to try and determine what the problem was. This was done 8 months after my first admission to A&E, and this diagnosed the problem and cured it. If they had been honest from the outset and said they didnt know what was wrong with me I would have understood, I might not have been happy. But I wasnt happy with them coming up with the rubbish they did. I work within the NHS and collegues told me to complain. But I didnt complain as I felt it wasnt the right thing to do, and I didnt wast to cause a fuss. Had a patient told me thier experience had been this bad I would encourage them to complain, but as staff we tend to keep quiet.
