"Eye clinic outpatients"

About: Central Middlesex Hospital

A very busy, almost chaotic clinic, but reception staff were very courteous and efficient, and nurses on the whole were considerate and competent. There was a sister who was obviously very much on top of things, communicating well with nurses and patients and keeping a close eye on waiting times etc. However the doctor I saw was curt and non-communicative. Never once looked at me or called me by name, whizzed through various tests without explaining anything, just barking orders'; then did not really explain the procedure he wanted to book me in for, and treated my questions with condescension. Basically, he couldn't get me out of the door quick enough. I had to go home and get onto Google, then download a very helpful leaflet from another hospital (Bedford) before I understood properly what to expect at my next appointment - and why the treatment was necessary. Waiting time: I saw different nurses quite quickly for the various tests I needed, but I then had to wait ages to see the doctor.

We were pleased to learn that you received such good care and attention from the nursing staff within the outpatient clinic at CMH. Your kind comments will be passed on to the staff in the areas concerned. However I was sorry to hear of your concerns related to the doctor who you met with. This is not the standard that we would wish or aim for.
