"Laparoscopic Hernia Repair"

This was my third hernia repair. I had two, 25 years ago, one done in Bristol and one in Singapore. In Bristol at a private hospital paying privately - the Chesterfield. In Singapore at a half-private hospital, co-paying with my employer. The distinguishing features were that in Singapore the surgeon discussed my operation with me and carefully explained the procedure. In Bristol I was treated brusquely by the surgeon and given to understand that as a person without medical qualifications, I would not be involved in any decision or discussion. I am delighted to report that my experience at Circle Bath twenty five years later was a million miles from that patronising Bristol experience. The surgeon explained carefully what would happen, and why. All the other aspects of my care were on a par with Singapore or better. The manner and knowledge of the nurses and anaesthetist was outstanding. And all this on the National Health.
