"Miscarriage care"

About: Dorset County Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Went to gp at 8 weeks pregnant with lower one sides abdominal pain. Ectopic pregnancy was expected so was referred to local EPAU the next day for a scan.

The scan showed a normal uterine pregnancy of 5 weeks with very faint heartbeat not as good as should have been for gestation. Had to return 7 days later for a repeat scan to see if any development etc. At 9 weeks the scan still showed 5 week pregnancy with no heart beat so miscarriage was confirmed.

Had chat with nurse who offered me 3 options: wait naturally, have medical management or have an ERPC. I opted for ERPC and they got me in the very next day. I had a private room and was allowed a friend or relative to accompany me all the time (other than anaesthesia).

I was treated with kindness and compassion all the way through and cannot fault the care I was given.
