"Quality and timely care & service from door to..."

About: Kettering General Hospital

My son had difficulty breathing at 11pm, from the minute I dialled 999 we received excellent service. The call handlers were efficient, the nurse put on the line whilst we awaited the paramedic arrival was calm and reassuring. The paramedic in the car made timely decisions and helped settle my sons initial distress. The crew who came to take us to hospital were really friendly and put my son at ease in an alien environment. The nurse/paramedic in a&e had a fantastic manner with my son & instantly established rapport. The dr initiated quick treatment but was also kind and understanding of my concerns regarding my sons oxygen levels. I felt he was keeping an eye on us whilst also attending to others in the department. Plans were fully explained to me and I felt I knew what would be happening roughly when, including the need for observation when I might have felt not much was happening. The decision for a paediatric review at 3am obviously led to a very sleepless night for me as I revisited our story with the nurse and later still the doctor but the staff on skylark ward were comforting and understood my need to get my son settled without me needing to say anything. Our stay was short there, and he was actually much improved by the time we even arrived, but I was never made to feel I was wasting anyone's time. The doctor explained her findings and the plan with me. My son was observed regularly with as little disruption as possible. I felt very welcome. The ward was obviously clean and bright being such a new area. Our visit to this hospital was relatively brief, but I could not fault it. A huge thank you for all your hard work, you're all doing a great job that does make a difference. A great team.
