About: Luton & Dunstable Hospital

After getting unwell while abroad as a by product of a surgery, I had to cut my trip short and return to the UK to get treatment. I opted to go to Luton because it was closest to the airport. Upon arriving to A&E (where I was visible in a great deal of pain, unable to stand or even talk) the receptionist (who looked bored and uninterested) told me I needed to go to the GP section. Apparently, I did not look like an emergency despite being unable to breathe properly. My surgeon had given me a letter to take to the A&E, should I have any symptoms as described above. No one seemed interested to take notice of the letter. I waiting in the GP area for nearly 2hrs before I was seen by a doctor. He promptly diagnosed me with what he presumed was wrong and dished out a hefty amount of anitibiotics (which it turned out I did not need and cost me nearly £50 for the prescription!) I tried explaining to him about my surgery and showing him the letter from my surgeon to give to the medical people in the event of any of my symptoms. He refused to listen and insisted he was correct. So, I ended up leaving with £50 worth of medicine which I did not need. Two days later, I was still in a great deal of pain and unwell (despite taking the medicines) Finally, I managed to contact the hospital where I had initially had my surgery , who promptly insisted I needed to go back in for an examination. The next thing I know, I am being whisked away back into surgery immediately!! If only the unhelpful staff at Luton had listened to me, I would have not suffered or been so badly misdiagnosed. It seems their only concern is to get patients out of there asap as opposed to administering proper care and attention. Please avoid this place if you want to receive any sort of sufficient medical treatment.
