"Endoscopy Unit for colonoscopy."

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

Thanks to the staff on this unit, my whole visit was as pleasant as it could be, under the circumstances. The unit seemed very clean. There was a television in a small but quite comfortable lounge area whilst waiting to go in. That, also, helped me to relax a little. I was kept well informed at every step of the procedure. My nurse sat down with me to explain everything on the information sheets and forms and she made me feel very comfortable to ask her about anything that I did not understand. This all helped me to feel more confident as time progressed. The surgeon who performed my colonoscopy, had a chat with me about the procedure before he started, and I felt that I could trust him (I still feel that now it is over). His two nurses seemed to work really well together and made me feel more relaxed and confident than I would have expected, as I am usually quite a nervous patient. They were, also, very professional. After it was over, I was wheeled into a recovery ward for approx 45 minutes and was checked on frequently by the nurses before getting dressed and being given a cup of tea and a biscuit. A member of staff then phoned my husband to tell him that I was ready to be collected. This was because I had opted to be sedated during the procedure. I cannot think of anything else that could have been done to make my visit go more smoothly. The surroundings and furniture in the public and waiting areas are a little tired and could give the wrong impression, but I am almost reluctant to comment on that as everything else is so right. I could not have asked for better treatment anywhere on all levels.
