"Second Cataract operation"

As I was 9th on a list of 12 to be operated between 1 and 8pm I had been called to attend at 4pm along with the last 6. However were not taken into the unit until about 4.30. The nursing staff preparing us had understandable break in that long time. Generally things flowed well, with friendliness, humour and efficiency. I discovered that those with anaesthetic by injection took a bit longer than those with eye drop anaesthetic. Of our six the first were by injection and so delay seemed to be increasing. However things really moved with number 7 and 8 so I was quicker than I was expecting. Again the operation went well with the surgeon and his skill and consideration being supported by a good team. The effect of this 'simple' operation is amazing! Vision so much clearer and brighter. If anyone is hesitant I would say go for it. The discharge routine was well completed, including useful car parking advice at the end if the day, with a move to a nearer park. A couple of suggestions. Would batches of four be workable when twelve are to be treated? Arriving at say 1, 3 and 5. This would shorten the waiting time of those down the list. The changes of nursing staff disturbed the flow of attention. Care in handing over might be improved. Nevertheless they got control of the situation before it had any bad effect
