"The treatment I received in St George’s was faultless"

About: Harmoni / NHS 111 St George's Hospital (Tooting) / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

In May I went to Devon with members of my family who were here from Canada. We returned to my home on Friday and on Saturday I had pottered around but then struggled to get up the stairs to go to bed that evening. The Following morning my daughter brought me a cup of tea and some toast in bed but I struggled to sit up to have this.

My family were all very concerned as it was not like me to struggle, although I’m in my nineties I am generally quite fit and active. They decided to call for an ambulance and called the 111 service.

When they arrived the two ladies took my temperature and offered me medication to bring this down as it was high. They did not think it was necessary for me to go to hospital. However, my daughter and granddaughter persuaded them to take me as they knew me well enough to know that my behaviour was not normal.

Following some tests in the A&E department in St George’s hospital I was admitted into hospital where further tests revealed pneumonia. It was a good thing the ambulance people did take me into hospital!

The treatment I received in St George’s was faultless. The nursing staff and other ward staff were all very cheerful and caring.
