My wife was admitted to hospital in November 2013 and February 2014. They were both emergency admissions due to multiple seizures. Her first visit she was discharged after 2 nights but didn't see a neurologist. Her second emergency admission she had to wait 6 days before a neurologist was seen. During these 6 days my wife was very ill having multiple seizures. I complained to PALS and after a fight my wife got to see the new neurologist who has been there a week. Aparantly the main consultant is unhappy that I have complained stating that they only got the referral on Monday (she had been in hospital the Thursday before this. Is this an excuse? No, if someone is having multiple seizures and continue to do so in hospital they should not have to wait 6 days this is totally unacceptable. I was then told by the sister on the ward that Airedale doesn't actually have a neurological dept just 2 consultants. If I had known this i would have told the ambulance to go to BRI. When I spoke to the consultants secretary about why he didn't see my wife when she was admitted in November the reply was he was on holiday. Again an unbelievable excuse when they are supposed to be giving a neurological service . This is of no use my wife or anyone else who is admitted in an emergency.I do not know why Airedale general employ 2 neurological consultants when they do not have a department of neurology and cannot offer a decent service to people who are admitted in an emergency. My recommendation is tell the ambulance driver to go to Leeds General Infirmary or Bradford Royal Infirmary where there is a neurological dept and they will be seen promptly and get the treatment they need.
