"Car Parking Outrage & Booking-in a Shamble at..."

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

My 93 yr old disabled Mam arrived by car at the Chester Rd Wing with a serious condition. The car was registered as instructed and her blue badge was correctly displayed. She had no memory of having been to this Sunderland hospital before. The numbering of area was confused and not in sequence and we had to go through three sets of registering to get to the Consultant. We were up and down the corridors for 15 mins and nearly missed our appointment time. What a shambles. They had no paper or screen notes at the appointment on my mother's recent hospital stay and so we had to go through it all again. It was like groundhog day. Two weeks later I got a £70 parking charge notice for supposedly parking incorrectly on "private land". Choose and Book? Don't choose here and book elsewhere. The department visited (Dermatology) isn't even on their drop-down list.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments and we apologise for the difficulties your mother encountered when attending the Dermatology Department. We would like to discuss this with you in further detail in order to try and resolve the signage issue as we do appreciate that it must have been quite distressing for your mother who will have been concerned that she would not be seen. If you would like to do this, please contact the PALS team on 0800 587 6513 (freephone) or by email at pals@chs.northy.nhs.uk The Dermatology Service at Sunderland Royal Hospital is provided by County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust and this is why the specialty does not appear in the drop down box within NHS Choices. We are unable therefore to look into the lack of notes at the clinic however would be happy to forward your contact details to County Durham and Darlington NHSFT if you wish. Again, please contact the PALS Team if you would like to do this. Our apologies once again that your mother's experience in attending Sunderland Royal was not as we would have wished.
