"NICU staff were outstanding"

About: Leighton Hospital

The NICU staff looked after our baby Isabelle Cooke after she suffered an infection. Isabelle was in the NICU for 5 days and was treated with a fantastic level of care and attention by the staff. My wife and I were kept informed of Isabelle's progress and we were treated with care and compassion by the nursing staff. After 5 days Isabelle was moved to the children's Ward as she was considered well enough, and again we were fortune to have Frankie caring for Isabelle. As with the NICU staff Frankie was attentive and we felt lucky to have Isabelle in Frankie's care. I should also mention the midwife who helped to deliver Isabelle and was very patient with us and also very supportive. Due to Isabelle passing Meconium during birth the doctors had to use suction to clear her airway but before taking Isabelle to the NICU Kelly made sure my wife got to hold Isabelle for a couple of minutes which I thought showed real consideration during a pressured time / environment. The staff in the NICU and the children's Ward and the labour ward all did an outstanding job and are a credit to the NHS.

Response from Leighton Hospital

I would like to thank you for taking the time to comment on the care that you and daughter received on maternity, neonatal and children’s unit. As a Divisional Matron I am proud of the staff who work hard to ensure that the experiences are positive and you leave the unit knowing that every effort was made to give the best care to you and your family. To have positive feedback allows me to share this with the staff on the unit so that they can see that their efforts are appreciated so I thank you for giving me that opportunity. Having a baby on the neonatal unit and then the children’s unit can be a scary experience for any new parent so I am pleased that we managed to provide you with the support and confidence during this difficult time. With kindest regards Lynn Jones Divisional matron
