" Day Ward closure"

About: Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as the patient),

At the start I want to say I am in agreement with the principles behind the Recovery College but still want to stress that it will meet a different client group to those on the current day ward. In acute stages people are not always well enough to attend a more structured environment but need a safe supportive place to do until they are.

The way the closure of the day ward is being handled by management above ward level is having an adverse effect on my mental health. The its closing, its not it will run alongside the Recovery College to its closing end of March to no June sometime. If they can say one thing whilst doing another what service is safe? I know long term I will be well enough to manage my illness without the support of cmht but that time is not now and all this worry is making it seem even less so,

Response from Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you for taking the time to post your comment about the Recovery College/Day Ward at the Peter Hodgkinson Centre. I am sorry to hear that this is having an adverse effect on you and would like to allay your concerns. Whilst I can understand that you are worried this is an exciting project to support people and help them to recover and better understand mental health.

The day ward does not have an official closure date although the services provided have reduced a great deal over the last several months. The staff that were based in it full time are now largely working within other teams but if the acute inpatient areas identify someone who needs to attend for a specific reason the service will ensure that there are people available to support them as part of a planned period of care, usually linked to the crisis and home treatment team involvement that they are receiving. The need for this however has been minimal and it is hoped that once the recovery college is firmly established within the Trust we will be able to provide a broad enough health, wellbeing and educational timetable, running alongside the Managed Care Network provision, to meet everybody’s needs in a meaningful way.

If you wish to discuss this further I would be more than happy to do so. Please feel free to contact me on 01522 526827.
