"Poor care at Doncaster Royal Infirmary"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary / General surgery

(as the patient),

I attended the Doncaster Royal Infirmary after having appendicitis and had to have my appendix removed. I was moved from the emergency ward to ward 24, where I stayed for 2 nights. After my operation, I had symptoms of a water infection and so had to have my urine tested. I did my sample in a cardboard bucket and left it for the nurse to test - after 2 days the sample was still on the floor beside me!

Also, I was forced out of bed the morning after my operation and told to sit in a chair. This was very uncomfortable, since it was only the day before that I had had surgery. The porter stripped my bed and dumped the bedding on top so I could not get back into bed. I was in agony for 3 hours before they let me go home. My family were disgusted. No care was given and, when I asked for help with anything, it was refused.

For these reasons, I would never like the thought of going back into hospital again!
