About: Hinchingbrooke Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

the A and E department staff were great ! the docotors listened and were good. I was pleased with all docotor care I got.through out.

What could be improved

I was put on the same ward twice for two problems. I tried at first to think the nurses were understaffed. However on the second visit ,I saw several times them talking for long lengths of time at the nurses station and ignoring patients calls. The british nurses in particular were past rude, they were offencive. They were rude to me on several occasions, but worst still I saw how they treated the elderly. one nurse had even just come on shift and when asked by a lady 83 a question , the rude reply was" do what you want and a glare given" then the nurse stormed off. The patient was ignored and no help given. 3 times I witnessed patients left in the loos and being stranded. I saw and over heard a sister talking to a nurse about delicate and private things about a patient behind there back, I saw and over heard right in front of me a nurse saying to another , "I am going to fill my care plans in here ,because they keep insisting on buzzing their bells ,and I am sick of going to them to help.. I both times was so offended and disgusted I left early and had them discharge me.

Do not go into a caring profession unless you care .

As for me ,I wrote on entry to the hospital what I was allergic too and then given a meal with nuts in .I could have died, if i had not asked as I always do. I was given no water at all to drink from 8 am till 6 pm. when I finally got food it was ok, nothing to wright home about and hardly filling. there were no magazines , no tv , radio nothing to occupy your mind, and the sliding glass doors to each room ! who thought of that ? you feel like a caged animal ,or in a fish bowl, there is no air and it is boiling .The money could have been better used with over bed tv's as other hospitals are now doing , this would give patients important in house entertainment and give them motivation to get well, how things are right now, there is non.

I was and am disgusted!

Anything else?

This used to be such a lovely hospital with a welcoming country feel.where you felt as the patinet important and family were kept well imformed.

What happend Hinchingbrooke ?
