My mother was admitted to A & E following a stroke in January. She was treated with kindness throughout the initial assessment phase and this continued when she was moved to the hyper acute ward 20 and then to the Stroke ward 23.
I was particularly touched and reassured by the fact that the staff on ward 20 knew her name and addressed her as she arrived on the ward. We were allowed to remain with her as long as we liked even though it was in the early hours of the morning.
When we visited the following day the senior nurse on duty explained what had happened and what to expect in very clear language which was neither patronising nor over complicated. This was very reassuring during a highly stressful time. I apologise that I did not make note of his name but he was marvellous.
The staff on ward 23 have continued in the same vein.
Well done all!
