"My son's undiagnosed rash"

About: Northern General Hospital Royal Hallamshire Hospital Sheffield Health & Social Care NHS Foundation Trust Sheffield PCT

(as a carer),

I am mum and carer to my son Lee. He collapsed back in September 03, and was admitted to one hospital and then 5 days later transferred to another hospital where he was diagnosed with pneumonia and septicemia. He was treated and after another 5 days was allowed home. He started to get a rash on his arms, but didn't know what it was, neither did the doctors.

In Feb 04, he was admitted to a mental health hospital where he stayed for a month, then he had nights at home and days at the hospital for another 2 months. He had several different medications which they changed because of this rash, even though we told them that he had been getting this for the past few months, but it made no difference they still changed his meds rather than find the cause of the rash.

Lee was finally diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, put on olanzapine and has been taking this since and is still taking it.

Over the course of the next couple of years, the rash started to spread and for the last 3 years or so it has been all over his body. I am at my wits end trying to get this sorted for him. No-one seems to be listening to us. I have on numerous occasions taken Lee to the hospital and the doctors, with at least 4 occasions when he had the rash. We were told that it wasn't heat rash and the doctor wrote to the specialist at the hospital for Lee to be seen.

After waiting several months, we went back to the doctor, at Norwood medical centre, to find out how much longer we would have to wait to see the specialist. We were then informed that the specialist had wrote back to the doctors, stating that it would take too many tests to find anything out - so they were not seeing him. I am still trying to find out what is wrong with him, but i don't know what else to do.

He has also has bowel and stomach problems, which he has suffered with since he was 15 months old, and he is sick on a daily basis. I just feel that no-one will take us seriously, just because he has a mental health problem. If i finally get any answers i will write again.
