"Car Parking Fee's for people with Cancer"

About: Derriford Hospital / Colorectal surgery Derriford Hospital / Oncology

(as the patient),

In Derriford, Plymouth has one of the best hospitals in the country.

In all of the various departments that I have been treated in, along with all of the various staff doing so many different jobs, I could not speak to highly of the standards that they set and work to.

BUT, why do we people with Cancer or their carers have to pay to park?

You go to Torbay Hospital in Torquay, they are more than pleased to furnish you with a free parking badge, the staff even inform where to go and get this badge!

Dear Tavi Pirate

Thank you for your message and for your positive feedback about the care you have received and the staff you have met at the Trust during your visits to Derriford Hospital.

I note your concerns about the parking charges for people with cancer and their carers and I will ensure that VINCI (parking services) are made aware of your comments and request their response.

I will come back to you again as soon as I hear back. Thank you for raising concerns through Patient Opinion.

Kind regards

Mary

Many thanks for your comment regarding parking charges for patients suffering from Cancer. Further to your enquiry, I have received the following information from VINCI parking services.

Plymouth Hospitals Trust does offer free parking for patients who are admitted for Cancer related treatment. The free parking concession is available from the Parking Desk situated on main reception in level 6 – patients are simply asked to bring their admission letter with them to be given the free parking pass.

The free parking concession is well known to the majority of staff within the hospital, however there may be one or two new starters whom are not aware of the discount available. Please accept our sincere apologies if this information was not made available to you and we would like to thank you for bringing this problem to our attention.

Kind regards

Mary
