On Saturday I went into the Day Surgery Unit for a knee arthroscopy. My experience from start to finish was incredibly positive and I was so well looked after that I felt I had to share the experience. The experience started with a telephone call with one of the orthopaedic booking clerks. She was polite, friendly, helpful and professional and got me booked into a list planned for a couple of days later. This good experience continued when I arrived at the Day Surgery Unit and all of the staff there were caring, helpful, friendly and exactly how you would wish any member of staff in a caring environment to be. The nursing staff made me feel incredibly relaxed, comfortable and well looked after. The surgeon and the anaesthetist were both professional, kind, friendly, answered all of my questions and communicated well. The theatre team were very reassuring and had a very good patient manner and made me feel very relaxed and in safe hands. Thanks to all the staff, I didn't feel nervous at any point but confident that I would be well looked after. When I came round in post-op, the staff were very kind and caring. They tucked me up with extra blankets when they saw I was shivering and were friendly, considerate and solicitous. On my return to the Day Stay unit I was regularly checked, given a sandwich, tea and biscuits (by a very pleasant and friendly domestic) and the staff made sure I was comfortable, had everything I needed to go home and that I had all of the information I needed. All in all, I could not fault my experience in any way and from start to finish, felt as though I were in the best of hands. I would not hesitate to recommend Southend as a place of care for my friends and family. I had a really good experience as a patient.
