In spring 2011 I was diagnosed with liver cancer (arising from an earlier diagnosis of genetic haemochromatosis) and the summer of that year, I was admitted to the liver transplant list at St James's Hospital in Leeds.
I had a 5 month wait (including one false alarm) and had a liver transplant in December 2011.
I was looked after by a brilliant team of surgeons, physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health professionals, and apart from a few hiccups (mainly rising from staff pressures), was very well looked after, as I have been since discharge.
The team in Leeds have a well deserved, brilliant reputation and I can't ever thank them enough.
