"Review on treatment by the staff"

About: Chippenham Hospital

I had flu like symptoms, sore throat, swollen glands and rashes coming up all over my body so I contacted 111 and they referred me to Chippenham hospital. There was a lot of confusion as I was told there was a medical center for out of hour doctors on the premises but we couldn't find it. So my sister popped into minor injuries clinic to ask for advice and we were told we would be seen there. The lady on reception was very helpful and seemed concerned by the wrong information given us by the 111 team. She then gave us a form and directed us to the nurses station. When we got there the nurse was very rude and abrupt. I tried to explain my circumstances and before she even looked at me she remarked that maybe I should just 'Soldier on' and when I said my concern over the rashes she said 'well it is probably nothing' I was very emotional as I have been battling with my health for a couple of days and started to cry. She relented but made it obvious this was the last thing she wanted to do. When she finally looked at me after abrupt and repetitive questions which didn't seem to have anything to do with my condition she took my temperature and admitted it was high and the my glands were swollen, she looked at my rashes and remarked that they are an odd shape. She then told me to go home take paracetamol and eat cold food like ice cream. The whole examination was tense and she remained rude and abrupt asking irrelevant questions such as 'why are you staying at your sisters instead of your mothers'. I am very upset and disappointed by the treatment. Besides the rudeness and abruptness she seemed unwilling to be helpful and treated me like a nuisance. I tried to do the right thing by ringing 111 first and followed their instructions, treatment like that makes me feel as if I shouldn't go to get looked at when I am concerned about my health in the future.
