"Can't praise this hospital enough"

About: Alnwick Infirmary

My dad is currently in Alnwick hospital In Ward 1 and has been for the last 2 weeks. Prior to this my dad was in Wansbeck where he had a terrible time and in my opinion was shown no awareness of any dignity or respect. My goodness what a difference this hospital is to our experience at Wansbeck. All of the staff including the consultant are very approachable, caring and treat the patients with the uttermost respect. The nurses do their job like its a vocation and are very caring and responsive to the needs of the patients. The patients are assisted to be washed everyday and changed and the food is of good quality and varied choice. My dad has vascular dementia and everyone takes time to answer his questions and stay a while to talk to him if he has any concerns. We are also consulted and involved as to what is going with my dads care and plans for his release. I really can't praise the staff enough, they work very hard to create a nice environment for the patients.

Dear Kim,

Many thanks for sharing your story and experience as a daughter.

I am so pleased that your father is getting all the support, compassion and respect he deserves from the whole team at Alnwick. They too, will be delighted to know how much this has meant to you.

Whilst your experience gives us much to be proud of, I am extremely concerned that your experience in Wansbeck was very different from this? You will understand why I want to respond to this with some urgency - we expect dignity to be at the heart of all care we provide.

My email is annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk and I'd be extremely grateful if you would get in touch to share some details of the ward you were on and what your concerns were at this time.

All feedback, good or bad, allows us to improve as an organisation and so we are extremely grateful when people take the time to get in touch with us.

I hope your father continues to thrive with the thoughtful care of the Alnwick team.

Best wishes,

Annie
