Following a stay in hospital my husband was brought home in an ambulance yesterday evening. The two people in the ambulance were a man and a woman who seemed the more dominant.
They brought my husband into the house. I explained that he would need to be taken upstairs to the bedroom. The woman said they could not take him up and that he would need to walk. My husband tried with their help but could not get up the stairs.
At this point they turned him round so that he had his back to the stairs and basically dragged him up. The woman would lift my husband a step at a time while the young man lifted his legs. I was very distressed and I could see the man looking at me to see how I was reacting. I think he was embarrassed.
I think the way my husband was treated was shocking.
I should explain that my husband took ill suddenly and I did not have a chance to organise sleeping arrangements downstairs. I don’t think I even thought about it with everything else.
All the care at the hospital has been very good – the response nurses and doctors have been fantastic. It’s a shame this particular ambulance crew let us down.
