I am a disabled person with a mobility scooter and need to have me feet treated by a chiropodist. When I go to have me feet seen to I have a hard time as the treatment rooms are upstairs and whilst there is a lift in the building Rotherham Borough Council do not allow scooters into the lift.
They have offered a wheelchair at the centre but there is only one wheelchair so if other people need it I could be waiting an hour before I can use it.
Recently I used an ambulance to take me to the chiropodist and bring me back home but I am concerned about the cost of this. I don’t need to pay for this but there must be a cost to someone.
In Swinton people who need chiropody treatment and are scooter users are able to use the lift in the building – so why not in Maltby?
I feel that disabled people are discriminated against as scooter users are not allowed into buildings with their scooter – I cannot go into the council offices to pay my rent or use the leisure centre. I can still take the scooter into my GP’s surgery because it is a small scooter.
