"Theatre staff and consultant brilliant"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

I was rushed into A&E by ambulance having collapsed at home in agony. The ambulance crew from EMAS were brilliant, they put me at ease even though I was terrified. On arrival to HRI I was left in a 'holding bay' prior to being taken into A&E, I was suffering from excruciating pain but was left alone crying out for at least an hour. Bloods were taken but no one came to help with my pain. Once taken through into A&E I saw a registrar who acted promptly and professionally in getting me pain relief and organising a surgeon to come and see me. The surgeon quickly realised what the problem was and called a consultant who turned up very quickly. After an examination I was taken straight to theatre. The 2 consultants and the theatre staff were amazing, I was in absolute agony and they helped to calm me down and acted so quickly. After surgery the nurses and staff were just brilliant, I felt safe and the consultant was on hand all night. The hospital was clean, staff were friendly and ultimately I felt safe at Hull Royal. The emergency surgery was so unexpected and scary, I would like to thank the staff for making me understand and explaining everything so well and just taking the time to reassure me. The only time I wasn't happy was during my time prior to seeing a doctor in A&E, it's a terrifying time when you don't know what is going on and being left on a trolley in a holding bay without medical supervision is not acceptable.
