"Awaiting conservation"

About: Newcastle Dental Hospital

I was referred by my dentist in December following a difficult root canal ( the dentist couldn't reach all the canals) I consequently developed a deep infection requiring 6 weeks of antibiotics and analgesia. I have rang dental hospital today and have been told I have to wait 18 weeks for an assessment then treatment will be planned from there. I am in constant pain and requiring regular antibiotics. This is disgusting in my opinion. I'll be contacting my dentist to see what they can do but seeing as the dentist ( who physically examined me) deemed my referral urgent and the consultant ( who has never met me) deemed it routine. Annoyed just doesn't even describe how I'm feeling!

Thank you for leaving feedback regarding the Dental Hospital. We are sorry that you are having to wait for a diagnostic appointment having been referred by your dentist in December. Our clinical staff assess the relative urgency of referrals using both their clinical judgment and their knowledge other referrals received by us. If your clinical condition has changed since the initial referral was made you can ask your dentist to contact us again advising us of any changes which have occurred and we will review our prioritisation of the referral.   If you have ongoing concerns about your care in the Dental Hospital, please contact our Patient Relations Team on 0191 2231382 who will do all that they can to address your concerns.
