"Eye ward 35"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

I was recently admitted for major eye surgery, a Macular Hole. I arrived on the ward and in the space of an hour had moved beds three times. The ward was full of elderly medical patients which when you are awaiting major eye surgery was very distressing, the smell of faeces was appalling and the lady opposite me had the most dreadful cough. I think the ambiance of the ward in such a situation is crucial to help you deal with the surgery and this was not the case. I understand there is a bed shortage having worked in the health service for 40 years but surely management could be discerning with the choice of patients that occupy these beds.
