"Outpatient Appointment."

Having had planned surgery for Hemicolectomy to treat a congenital mega-colon on 12th September 2013 I was discharged a week later on 19th September. After three days at home my wife had to call a paramedic out, as I had a raised temperature and was experiencing much discomfort and unable to make myself comfortable. The paramedic was adamant that I return to hospital and in doing so it was found that the surgery had come undone. Readmitted through Accident and Emergency, Laparotomy was performed and I remained in hospital for a further two weeks, before being discharged on 2nd October 2013. Left with an Ileostomy bag I have attended Stoma Clinics since my discharge and following a visit in late December enquired at the Outpatient Reception as to when I was to be contacted regarding an (outpatient) appointment. I was advised that there was nothing showing on the system and it was best to contact the surgeons secretary. I did this and was informed that I was not on the waiting list but could refer myself to see him, which I did. I then asked how long I would have to wait, as my operation had been in September, three months earlier. I was told that I would be notified by post and looking at late January for an appointment. This morning (27th January) I have followed up the appointment, as not as yet contacted. Having spoken to the surgeons secretary (on 01752 763289) I have been advised that there are patients awaiting (outpatient) appointments that were seen in surgery as far back as April 2013. I thought that Outpatient Appointments were 6 – 8 weeks following discharge. Is this no longer the case? Also, had I not have referred myself, as not on the waiting list, would I have been seen at all?
